The Drive Academy Process The Drive Academy utilizes an instructional approach with easy to learn driving techniques designed to help students of all ages that quickly develop their understanding of the basic defensive driving skills and techniques required to be a safe, responsible and courteous driver. Course Administration a.) Fifteen "mandatory" 2-hour class sessions b.) Six (6) hours minimum of driving instruction (BTW) c.) Six (6) hours minimum of driving observation Enrollment Requirements a.) $100 deposit required too reserve seating b.) Affidavit/Consent for minor to drive (signed) c.) Driver Education Approval Form (signed) Preparation for Class a.) Good attitude and respect for each other b.) Notebook (for classroom note taking) c.) Writing instrument of choice (pen or pencil) Participation and Attendance a.) Students must sign in at the beginning of each class and prior to the starting of classroom instruction. b.) Classroom attendance will be taken daily. Attendance failure or excessive tardiness (over 15 minutes) will result in a recorded absence. *Each student is allowed a maximum of four (4) absences before being dropped from the course. c.) Maintain an average passing grade of 60% d.) No Smoking, Drinking or Profanity while on school property. Make-Up Classroom Session a.) Students that have missed a class can reschedule a make-up session by calling the Drive Academy's main office for an appointment. b.) Student will be dropped (no refund) from the course after missing a maximum of four (4) absences. Illinois Instruction Permit a.) After completion of the first two (2) days of Classroom instruction, students are eligible to apply for their Illinois Instruction Permit. b.) Proof of Student's Name and Date of Birth - Certified copy of birth certificate or a valid passport. Note: Hospital birth certificates or photocopies will not be accepted. c.) Proof of Residency - School ID, transcript, bank statement or parent's driver's license. d.) $20 application fee and you must bring above identification documents with you to the DMV. e.) All Students that are issued an Illinois Instruction Permit must provide a copy of their permit to be included in their training record. Behind-the Wheel (BTW) Driving a.) Students can only be scheduled for a Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training lesson after they have. 1. Obtain an instruction permit from the Secretary of State DMV. 2. Provide a copy of their Instruction permit to the Drive Academy's main office. 3. All Fees are paid in full *Students must have their instruction permit with them at all times when taking a scheduled driving lesson. Blue Slip a.) State form requests will be finalized and processed as soon as the following requirements are met. b.) All classroom instruction is completed including all make-up work and testing. c.) All Behind-the-Wheel and observation time is completed Note: If completed at another school, all documents must have a letter grade assigned and date completed with a school official signature of approval. d.) All Fees are paid in full |
